Electronic Health Records Hosting Provider Uses Fortinet to Boost Performance and Reliability While Cutting Costs
Download Case StudyTegria offers healthcare providers access to managed technology platforms. Its cloud hosting business provides remote access to the MEDITECH electronic health records (EHR) system. With cybersecurity and network uptime key considerations for healthcare providers, Tegria needed to optimize the way it separates its customers’ MEDITECH systems within its cloud infrastructure.
Today, Tegria runs its 40+ customer MEDITECH instances in virtual environments, each protected with a high availability (HA) pair of FortiGate virtual Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs). Tegria runs its hosted services through the firewalls, which simplifies configuration and enhances customer isolation. The FortiGate NGFWs are augmented with FortiGuard AI-Powered Security Services for antivirus, URL filtering, and automated application control capabilities. Within each customer site, Tegria installs and manages physical FortiGate NGFWs enabled with Fortinet Secure SD-WAN to manage the connections back to the Tegria data center. With its new system in place, Tegria has been able to improve the resilience and performance of its network for a better customer experience, while reducing the total cost of ownership.
“The VM solution enables us to scale our costs to meet customer needs. Rather than buy an appliance that is big enough to handle the traffic growth we expect, we can just buy VMs as needed.”

Some of the challenges were finding a cloud firewall that would function in Azure. Fortinet met the needs of a cloud firewall. And then once COVID hit, it scaled to meet the capacity. The overall return on our investment with Fortinet is exponential compared to other products.”
